Bianca Beauchamp, "The Latex Queen" I.

Hace unos dias decidí introducir algún reto técnico en mis ilustraciones... ¿conseguiría pintar el brillo del látex? Para ello me dispuse a investigar en internet visualizando fotos de látex, ilustraciones de los grandes de la aerografía y esas cosillas. De pronto me encontré con ella, Bianca Beauchamp. Quizás ya la conozcan pero para mi era la primera vez. Estaba decidido. Si iba a pintar látex ella tenía que ser la modelo, sin duda.

A few days ago I decided to assume some technical challenge for my illustrations… could I paint the brightness of latex? I did some research in the Internet, I looked at some photos of latex, illustrations made by the great aerographers and all that. Suddenly, I found her: Bianca Beauchamp. You may know her already, but it was my first time. I was convinced: if I paint latex, without a doubt, she must be the model.

Le escribí un mail para comentarle la idea de tomar una de sus fotos y convertirla en ilustración... y ella me animó. Con esa responsabilidad me puse a trabajar y ahora puedo presentarles un pequeño tutorial de este trabajo y su resultado final.

I wrote her an e-mail telling about the idea of taking one of her photos and trying to make an illustration… and she encouraged me. With that responsibility, I began the artwork process, and now I can present a small tutorial of this work and the final outcome.

Como podéis ver en las imágenes, el boceto contenía un gran detalle de los distintos brillos y tonos del látex. Posteriormente comence con el traje a base de aguadas de tinta negra muy diluidas insistiendo en las zonas más oscuras. Esta parte me llevo varios dias de trabajo ya que el detalle aquí es esencial para guiar el trabajo posterior con aerógrafo y pincel.

As you can see in the images, the sketch contained a great detail of the different shines and tones of latex. Afterwards, I began to work in the dress applying very diluted black-acrylic gouache, focusing on the darker areas. This part took me several days because the detail is essential for guiding the subsequent work, with airbrush and brush.

En la primera imagen de esta serie podemos apreciar el trabajo de aguada y pincel en el rostro de la modelo con el fin de no perder el dibujo con la pintura del aerógrafo. En la segunda imagen podemos ver la importancia de fabricar una plantilla de acetato que proteja el fondo del dibujo a la hora de utilizar el aerógrafo.

In the first image of this series, we can appreciate the watercolour work in the face and hair of the model, trying not to lose the drawing with the airbrush painting. In the second image, we can see the importance of making an acetate stencil for protecting the drawing background while using the airbrush.

En la última imagen de esta serie podemos apreciar el trabajo realizado con el aerógrafo sobre el látex. La aplicación de pintura con el aerógrafo a suavizado las aguadas resaltando los brillos y sombras del látex. También es esencial trabajar con pincel la aplicación de líneas negras donde sea necesario, así como los blancos puros de los brillos.
In the last image in this series we can perceive the work made by the airbrush on the latex effect. The application of painting with the airbrush has softened the watercolors, stressing the shines and shades of latex. It is also essential to apply the black lines - where necessary - with the brush, as well as the pure whites of the shines.
